- the transformation of the Authors' Rights Protection Organisation is completed and the Authors' Lesser Rights Protection Organisation starts to work
- at the regular Annual Assembly a group of members submits a report on the condition of the Society and warns about "disagreement among the members, and the indifference that a considerable number of members show towards the life and work of the Society"; therefore organisational changes are suggested and the formation of a Council of 15-20 members which would be more suitable for making decisions than the Managing Board; in mid-May of the same year an emergency conference accepts this suggestion and passes regulations according to which "a different member of the council would be the chairman of each meeting"; however, the Department of Internal Affairs of the National Committee of the City of Zagreb does not accept such regulations in which it is not clear, by name and surname, who represents the Society, therefore the Council is forced to choose a president; - the publishing activity of the Croatian Pop-Music Composers' Association (UKLMH) begins and will last for decades under the title "Zabavne Melodije"
- during the year, the guests of the Associations are the French composer Germaine Tailleferne who gives a presentation for the members, and British composer Benjamin Britten and singer Peter Pears

April- General Annual Assembly of the Croatian Pop-Music Composers' Association (UKLMH) and the Croatian Composers' Society, where the decision is made to unite both associations under the name Croatian Composers' Society, and in the light of this, to change the regulations. A Managing Board of eight members replaces the Council with a president elected by the assembly; as part of the Society, individual sections operate; the first president of the new association is Jakov Gotovac; commissions are formed: 1) for membership; 2) for the selection of works to be published; 3) for artistic creation; 4) for promotion; 5) for the "Zagreb 64" festival; 6) for the publication of pop music, editions Zabavne melodije; 7) for the raising of a Society building.

February 26th- the new community premises in 9 Berislaviceva street are formally opened; - the first edition of the book by Krešimir Kovacevic, "Muzicko Stvaralaštvo u Hrvatskoj 1945-1965" (Musical Art in Croatia 1945-1965); in the foreword, the current president Natko Devcic writes: "Twenty years of activity is a lot when we speak of an association, and particularly when this is an association whose members are artists, each with his/her own artistic attitude and style, each with his/her own ideas, ambitions, problems, affinities and antipathies. Therefore, we can say after this past period: it is a miracle that we still exist. However, the Croatian Composers' Society really still exists, and I would even like to add - you bet it exists"
- a concert is held at which the works of Croatian authors, who received a prize at the competition that the Society opened to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its foundation, are performed. CCS's members contribute individually to the homeland war, not only as authors of numerous compositions of various genres which have encouraged and motivated the moral of defence, but also by participating in the Art Force formations as well as in the regular Croatian Army and units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, or by performing other kinds of works relevant to the defence of the Republic of Croatia. - preparations for the complete take-over and organisation of authors' rights protection are continued, involving the following: a) separation from SOKOJ; b) the adjustment of the inner organisation of the Society; c) the fight to obtain statutory and other conditions for the complete functioning of authors' rights protection
